Developmental Editing Contractor
Dom Write Now
About the Brand
Dom Write Now is a creative publishing and brand strategy studio that guides authors from raw manuscript to finished, publishable work. Our clients are entrepreneurs, thought leaders, ministry leaders, and first-time authors who have something to say and need a skilled editor to help them say it with clarity, structure, and intention. We don't just edit manuscripts; we help people find the spine of their story.
The Role
We are looking for a developmental editor to join our contractor roster on a project basis. Each engagement is scoped individually based on manuscript length, complexity, and timeline. You will work directly with Dom Write Now clients under the studio's editorial framework and standards.
What You'll Be Doing
Conducting full developmental edits on nonfiction manuscripts; memoir, self-help, faith-based, business, and personal narrative
Providing substantive feedback on structure, argument, voice, pacing, and clarity
Delivering editorial letters and inline notes that are specific, actionable, and encouraging without being soft
Communicating professionally and directly with clients throughout the project
What This Role Requires
Demonstrated experience in developmental editing; a portfolio or list of published titles you've worked on
Strong command of nonfiction structure across multiple genres; faith, memoir, business, and self-help experience is a plus
The ability to meet deadlines without being chased
An editorial voice that challenges writers without diminishing them
Familiarity working within a studio or agency model, where the client relationship is managed by the lead
This is the right fit if you understand that developmental editing is as much about strategy as it is about craft, you can read a manuscript and identify what it's actually trying to do, and you know how to give feedback that moves a writer forward instead of stopping them in their tracks.
Compensation: Project-based; rate determined by manuscript scope and timeline
Commitment: Flexible | Remote | Ongoing contractor relationship as projects come in
