You Can’t Always Chase New
In e-commerce, there's a strategy called the "single-product store." It's exactly what it sounds like — a store that sells only one product. The strategy is intended to specialize in one area, streamline operations, establish brand authority, and maximize sales.
While I have a hard time sticking to even 5 products without wanting to create something new, I use this strategy when I'm working with all types of clients to help them test that their audience is truly looking for their product or service and refine from one thing rather than stretching themselves and their business thin.
This week, I felt guilty that I haven't written a personal piece in a while. They say, "real writers write every day." And even though I'm always writing for clients, campaigns, and captions, personal writing is a calling, and when I'm not doing it, something in me feels empty.
But I thought about the stretch I urge clients to avoid. And I had to remind myself that I have 10 years of personal writing that people have not read, that I specialize in, that's already created, so it's streamlined, could continue to establish brand authority, and hopefully, maximize sales.
More is not always better. But letting my books sit on Amazon without pushing them isn't doing them justice. I have to reread them, see what's in them that I've relearned, and tell the people again that I wrote truth and I can stick beside it.
So next time you feel a block or like something's missing, reflect on whether the creativity could come from something you've already produced.
It's all inside.
You've already written more than you think. Let's figure out what to do with it. Work with me.
