Crumbling: A Poem About Beautiful Brokenness

A crumbling cake still smells sweet

Still tastes like heaven

Still melts the same — maybe just a little faster

What we see as disaster

Is indeed the same beautiful cake

Just a little broken

But aren’t we all

Just a little broken

With a perfectly sweet aroma

With an invitingly warm taste

Don’t we still melt the same in right environment?

A crumbling cake is the picture of what I thought was disaster

A crumbling cake is the dream of what I know is a matter

Of the simple fact

Of the simple science

Of our not so simple life

That although this cake cannot be put back together the same

Someone will still want to eat it
