God is Not Twiddling His Thumbs: A Poem for the Days When the World Feels Out of Control
I imagine
God is not scared right now
He saw the planes crash
He saw the fires burn
He watched the inauguration
He felt our hearts sink
He felt our hands shake
He watched our mouths drop
I imagine
God is not only sitting on His throne
Idly allowing time to pass
Twiddling His thumbs
I imagine
God was swimming to rescue.
He was burning to recover
He has prepared to redeem
This time
He’s prepared us
To rest
As He reveals
I imagine
He’s working to give us deeper breaths
To provide us longer breaks
To help us laugh with hope that it won’t have to end abruptly
I see Him
Stopping our fingers from scrolling
Slowing our nerves from firing
Stilling our hearts from crashing
Out
Stretched is my imagination
Of a God that sits low and looks high
Who has gotten men out of fires
Who has control of the air and seas
Who has brought down rulers
At his command
Tower
Guard
Refuge
Strength
Defense
Light
Some things I don’t have to imagine
Some things I know
Whatever we need, He can
Nothing is outside of His plan
I imagine, He knows
I know, He cares
